Contest: Are YOU the Ultimate LabVIEW G-eek 2006?

Apparently, with 580 points, I am one of the finalists (which is interesting, because I did guess the answers to some of the more obscure questions, to which I could not find any answers).

The finalists were sent three hard tie breaker questions (not multiple choice). For those wondering, here they are:

  1. How many 3.5 inch floppy disks did it take to ship LabVIEW 4.1 for Windows 95/NT including Advanced Analysis Library and Application Builder (P/N 500342C-xx, 500345C-xx, 500048E-xx)?
  2. How many labor hours was spent developing LabVIEW 6.0 core?
  3. What is the total number of lines of code (or its equivalent) of LabVIEW 7.0 core?

The deadline for answering these is midnight, July 31st CDT, so if anyone does know the answers to these, they should wait until after that deadline to post them. Personally, I have no time to research these (and I would probably have to guess the last two), so I'm withdrawing at this point, rather than guessing the rest.

I think it would have been more appropriate for you not to even post the questions until that date - I think there's a reason why NI didn't announce them publically.  I know that I look at all sorts of forums here and if someone was to post their thoughts on the answers (it hasn't happened - yet!) and I was to inadvertantly see it, then there goes the competition fariness...

I wonder if NI used the physical SLOC/node count, or the superior logical SLOC/GOB metric?

I'm guessing the core wasn't written in labview (is that recursive?), so it should be node-free.

What is LV written in?  C? Pascal? Smiley Indifferent

Congratulations!

May I ask you to reconcider?

It would be Exa-cool if one of the "Proven Enthusiastic Veterans" won.

GO Gold Team!

Chris, you're right about the problematic nature of posting the questions before the deadline, but the main reason I did it is because at this time I simply don't have access to the web and to LV and I don't know when's the next time that I will. I could just as easily not even have seen the email I was sent or visited the forums. I'm sure that if the finalists wanted to "cheat", they would find other ways, but I believe that this is not that kind of people. I have briefly considered that people might write what they think and that the contestants will see it inadvertently, which is why I also posted the deadline.

P.S. Ben, sorry, but I've basically made up my mind. I took this as a game more than as a serious challenge, and most of the fun is in playing the game. I would not enjoy winning by guessing (even though that is a fully legitimate part of the game) and I simply don't have the time to do the research. The prize and recognition do not attract me that much.

P.S. I wouldn't be surprised if Alten (or Dennis) wins.

I suppose that's fair enough - I was being a little extreme 🙂  It's encouraging to see the faith you have in people...

And for the other trivia nuts, the answers from the tie-breaker were:

1. How many 3.5 inch floppy disks did it take to ship LabVIEW 4.1 for Windows 95/NT including Advanced Analysis Library and Application Builder (P/N 500342C-xx, 500345C-xx, 500048E-xx)? 38 Floppies

2. How many labor hours was spent developing LabVIEW 6.0 core?  149,537.2 labor hours

3. What is the total number of lines of code (or its equivalent) of LabVIEW 7.0 core? 1,344,379 number of lines of code (or the equivalent)
