Wow - such an old post but indeed I still struggle with finding a perfect solution. Time has moved on though and there are a number of (not quite perfect) approaches.
Firstly Googling 'night mode' or 'dark mode' brings up a number of ways of changing W10 screens - what I have never fully mastered is how to automate those settings from inside a LabView app.
Secondly newer Panasonic Toughbooks come with a 'Day/Night mode' setting that is excellent but again toggling between settings from inside LV and you are tied to Panasonic.
Thirdly from inside LV you can control the app transparency (0-100%) which comes back to the need for a pure black screen. Use Transparency property of current VI
Fourthly my 'best' solution was to use the picture draw functions to 'draw' absolutely everything either in white or red - with controls in dropdowns under the RTM (but still white).
