I have created a VI that I want to turn into an instrument driver, but I AM NOT using the tools>instrumentation>create instrument driver project.
My would be driver is currently a .vi file and saved in the inst.lib folder of labVIEW 8.5. and I am unsure of how to 1) make the .mnu file for the driver, 2) convert the .vi that I have made into a .llb, and 3) create/arrange/edit the icon that will appear in the functions palette that I will use when creating my program.
I have tried going to tools>advanced>Edit Palette Set and created a new dir.mnu file in the same folder by inserting a new subpalette under Instr Drivers in the functions palette, but I feel like I did this step slightly wrong. It created a new submenu tab under Inst Drivers in the functions palette but there's nothing in there. I also worry that all I did was make a dir.mnu file for a blank template, as I did nothing to designate it to work with the VI that I want to make a driver other than saving it in the same folder.
I have also tried inserting a new VI instead of a subpalette. This puts an icon that I can bring into the block diagram onto the functions palette, but it doesn't create a .mnu file, and the icon for the VI has no terminals to connect to, so I can't do anything with it.

Good Afternoon,
As far as arranging the icon correctly within the functions palette goes, you can follow the instructions at this KnowledgeBase article which will walk you thought how to go about doing that. I hope this helps!
