DAQ Assistant doesn't start under normal user previlege

I just installed LabVIEW 7.1 and DAQmx 7.3. I found that the DAQ assistant did not start (the wizard window did not show up) under normal user previlege. However, if I change the user previlege to administrator, it works fine. Any idea what is happening and how to fix it.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting National Instruments.

This problem is caused by a lack of permissions. The DAQ Assistant is built from Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), and the user needs permission to access MAX's files.

Complete the following steps to set up permissions for the MAX Directory:

Log onto the computer as an administrator
Browse to the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX directory
Right-click the MAX folder and select Properties
Click the Security tab, and click the Add button
Type in the user name and click OK
Give the user Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read permission
Click Apply and then OK

If you have several different users and want all users to use the DAQ Assistant, repeat the above steps but type everyone for the user name. The above steps are written for Windows XP with a NTFS file system. For previous Windows versions, the procedure will be very similar but may not be exactly the same.

This problem will be fixed in NI-DAQ 7.4.

Hi Sean,

I added my account to the list with the permissions and it still does not work. I can see some disk activity but nothing on the screen. Previously, there is also a built-in group "users" in the security list, in which my account is a member, has the same permission setting. I don't think add my account to the list will change anything. In other words, my account already have the permissions required.

Best regard,

Wei

Hello Wei,

Try following the steps in this Knowledge Base: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/5ABE7A450C07FFDD86256AC000668EA1?OpenDocument

This KB has two possible solutions for this problem.

Let me know if they don't help.

Hi Sean,

I tried the first soltuion to add the account to the power user group, it worked. However, the second solution to change permission of the configuration file did not work. In fact, the file already have the full permission to everyone. I believe this is the permission issue. However, we may not look at the right source of the problem. I also tried to give my account the full permission to the National Instruments folder under program files, it did not resolved the issue either.

I'm having the same problem and tried the same thing you did at first - give full permissions to everyone in the NI folder and it didn't work. I am just now trying the Power User "fix".

There should be a fix other than making the users part of the Power Users group.
