DAQmx 8.7.1 needs LabView RunTime 7.1

Hi All!

I have LabView 8.2.1. If I install DAQmx 8.7.1 the LabView RunTime 7.1 is installed and needed by DAQmx 8.7.1. If I try to remove the LabView RunTime 7.1 (via "Add or Remove Programs") it says that DAQmx 8.7.1 needs to be removed too. Why? This was not the case for DAQmx 8.6.

If I now build an installer with a simple DAQ vi using DAQmx (I have an USB 6210) the LabView Runtime 7.1 is included in the installer. With DAQmx 8.6 my installer was about 185MB, with DAQmx 8.7.1 it needs about 325MB.

With DAQmx 8.6 one could choose "Runtime 5" in the installer maker to reduce the installer size. Now, "Runtime 4" is the smallest possible selection, resulting in the 325MB installer.

Is there something wrong with DAQmx 8.7.1 again?

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Dear hejoba

I can confirm what you said, the installer for a LabVIEW application including DAQmx 8.7.1 is extraordinary large and there's currently no option to get it smaller. So I think the only thing we can do right now is wait for a later revision which allows for smaller footprint.

Dear Philipp,

thanks for your kind reply. NI does a really bad job with the last DAQmx updates. Things can only get better.

Only runtime4 in DAQmx 8.7.1, my installers have now doubled in size!! This getting ridiculous.

Wait for another update?!?! What so it can get bigger! Then I have to recompile all my applications again.

There are some pros to programming in LabVIEW, but the cons are getting larger and larger.
