Darren's Weekly Nugget 07/24/2006

Quick nugget this week.  The other day I realized that I have never actually used the Ring/Enum editor in the property pages.  You know, when you right-click a ring or enum and choose "Properties..." then go to the Edit Items tab?  Anyway, I realized I've never used it because I always use Shift-Enter when entering items in a ring.  If you are editing the text of a ring/enum, you can press Shift-Enter, which will create a new item that you can start editing.  It's the fastest way I know to add items to a ring or enum.  Try it out!

The properties dialog is useful for ring controls if you want non-sequential values associated with your string items. I never use the Shift-Enter method, but I should probably start!

We are the same page Jarrod.

With your permision, I'd suggest re-wording your reply as;

"if you want non-sequential values associated with your string items [for Ring controls]".

I always used to use Shift-Enter to enter items. However, after giving the Auto-Tool another try and since I've started to use it, I've found that the Auto-Tool doesn't really let me go into data entry for a ring all that easily. So, for the sake of reducing my frustration level I've now gotten into the habit of just right-clicking and selecting "Edit Items..." Maybe the Auto-Tool works better in LV8, but we're sticking with LV7 for now.

See what happens, Darren when you actually convince others to do something, like start to use the Auto-Tool? Smiley Very Happy

I use the Auto Tool to edit rings.  When you're hovering over the ring with the Auto Tool, press the Ctrl button on your keyboard...it will turn your Auto Tool into the text tool, and you can start typing and Shift-Entering to your heart's content!
