Datalogging an RS485 comm line

Do you recommend a product/.vi we could use to do high-speed datalogging on a RS485 communications line for the purpose of troubleshooting the integrity of and decoding the data? We currently have Labview 5.1 and a PCI-1200 board under Windows 98.

Hello Brian,

Thank you for contacting National Instruments.

To do data logging on a RS485 system, you will need a 485 port on your PC. National Instruments offers many RS485 interfaces. You can view these at http://www.ni.com/serial/ .
To do data logging from LabVIEW, you would simply perform VISA Reads from your 485 port. There is a shipping example included with LabVIEW that might be helpful to you. To find this, go to Help >> Find Examples... in LabVIEW. Then in Example Finder, browse to Hardware Input and Output >> Serial >> LabVIEW <-> Serial.vi.

Let me know if you have further questions,

Sean C.
