Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit installation problem

Someone suggested I try the Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit to see if it would give me the filenames I am getting permission errors on.  I downloaded, tried to install, but I cannot un-check NI-MAX (despite the fact everything beneath it is disabled and the text on the screen would indicate it is disabled despite the green checkmark).  I can't get to the toolkit installation because I have a newer version of NI-MAX installed already.  Is there a workaround?

I don't have personal experience with this exact product, but based on my experience with other NI products, it should see that you have a newer version and not install it.

It seems it was already installed.  Quite a confusing little "toolkit", it didn't show up in my LabVIEW splash screen as being installed (still doesn't).  It says my eval is already expired.  I'm giving up on sophisticated solutions for now, it seems to be more efficient to wade through the ugly code.

Hello JulieC,

What you currently see seems to be like a failed installation of the kit, it is better to uninstall it first (Control Panel > Programs and Features > NI Software > Change > Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit > Remove) and try the installation again.

I am sure you are downloading the latest version, but please confirm you are downloading it at the following link:

Also, did you disable the UAC (User Access Control) in Windows Control Panel? What is your program doing that it interacts with some other files? Is it part of the Report Generation Toolkit?

Eric,

I did uninstall and reinstall, that's how I got past the install error.  That didn't fix the "expired" option.  It's possible it is one of the toolkits I installed as eval upon initial installation, though the names don't match up. The program is a complicated test tool, it has file operations all over the place.
