However, I have never had a use case for this and thus I do not have a VI that performs this action.

First of all, I would suggest you to review how floating number arithmetic works. Then you might get a better understanding of what has been mentioned and suggested in previous posts.

Afterwards, you might find it easier to perform the same operation on a string as in the attached example, which I think solves your issue
