Distributed System Manager SysMan ACL.acl

I've managed to lock myself out of the Distributed System Manager.

The help file http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372572A-01/sysman/ni_acl_db/ says to reset security settings remove the SysMan ACL.acl file from the default LabVIEW Data directory.  I cant find it

I've completed a search on my hard drive and found no file with an .acl extension

I was logging in and out trying to get the Shared Variable Engine operating correctly and for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to add a new host.  A message along the lines of "Changing this setting will no longer allow (Nobody) to log in"  It was a Friday afternoon and I presumed that as it was trying to log in with the User (Nobody), this was why my Shared Variable Engine would not connect to my OPC Server

Now the host name I changed it to does not work.  It says the user is invalid.

Any ideas how to reset the host settings so I can at least get in?

Hi Alan,

Please could you tell me the exact steps you took to lock yourself out on the Distributed System Manager.

Were you making changes in the Domain Account Manager?  If so what?

You added a new Domain.  Can't you log in to that either?

Best regards,

Hi Tony

Thanks for your help

See attached I went to Actions>ConfigureSecurity>then selected add New User/Host

Then checked configure new host and typed in the username of the PC.

Not the cleverest thing Ive done recently 😞

Hi Alan,

As this is to do with security settings, we haven't made it easy for users to reset them.  In the interest of time, I'd suggest a complete re-install of LabVIEW and the DSC Module (saving any previous work first).  This would mean a clean install, so unistalling LabVIEW and the DSC Module from the Windows Control Panel isn't enough.  Please find the following executable called MSI Blast, it has saved my life on a number of occasions.

Let me know how you get on.

Best regards,

Hi Tony

Thanks

Ive already got MSiblast and have already attempted a repair rather than a complete uninstall/reinstall, which didnt work.  I'll try it today and see how it goes

Hi Alan,

You should be able to find the "SysMan ACL" file under, "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\Distributed System Manager."  Rename it (so you can change it back should it not work), re-boot your machine and you should at least be able to launch the Distributed System Manager without it asking for a login first.

Best regards,
