Does LabVIEW 2009 support multiple monitors?

Does LabVIEW 2009 support the use of multiple monitors for development? Screen real estate use in LabVIEW is difficult. It would help if the developer could use more than one monitor.

In LabVIEW 2009 can you pin certain items to appear or pop up only on a specific monitor?

Can you have Front panels only show up on one monitor and Block Diagrams on another monitor?

How is this done?

Sure, I use two monitors.  You create a new VI, then drag the front panel to one monitor and drag the block diagram to the other monitor.  If you want this done automatically each time you create a new VI, then I wouldn't know how to do it or if it can in fact be done at all.  Doesn't take much effort to drag two windows.

Not exactly like this, but LabVIEW VIs remember thier last location when saved and will come up at that positiont, unless that is entirely out of the current desktop in which case they will default back to the primary monitor.

Also VI server supports multiple monitors too by giving you back a list of monitor rectangles so you could do a little utility that runs in the background to do what you want. Most likely you will not like such a deamon that pulls your diagrams and panels around as you move them on your screen, but you can try it out.

Don't do it.

I used to have a co-wirer that liked to save with FP and BD Maximized and on different screens-  He works elsewhere now.

I wouldn't fire a person because of that, but if he wouldn't be really good otherwise he would be gone for sure. Smiley Very Happy

Count me in as one who opposes maximizing block diagrams or front panels.  If they have to be that big, then you need to change your architecture.

Add me to that list as well!

How are you supposed to watch three VI's running in execution highlighting at the same time when one of them is maximized?

Although...

I do like multiple monitors...

YES!  Aren't they great!!!  It comes in so handy when you are trying to watch multiple VIs, and when copying and pasting.

LabVIEW was my excuse to my boss that I really "needed" two monitors.  AFAIK, you can drag LV windows to as many monitors as your OS supports.
