During Install of NI-Motion 7.5 Error 1304 is received.

During Install of NI-Motion 7.5 Error 1304 is received stating “Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\8.0\Browser Plugins\Mozilla\NPLV80Win32.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory.” with option to "Retry" or "Cancel"

I have checked my security settings and I have full control of this directory.

Also, I have deleted the directory and recreated...same error.

If I "Cancel" I receive the error message "The NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.0 installation has failed. Continue?" with "Yes" or "No" buttons.

I have tried both selecting all of the "Features" to install and only NI-Motion 7.5 (no sub features) and Ni Measurement & Automation Explorer 4.2 (no sub features) with the same error returned.

Any other ideas?

Hi flick,

Thanks for posting to the NI forums!  Have you tried to install Motion with Admin privileges? That would rule out whether the problem is with your privileges or not. If it isn't privileges, the problem sometimes occurs when the target file is corrupted on the disk. Try doing a scan disk on your C drive. Also, you can always continue with the installation after the RTE errors out, then install the RTE separately through the DAQmx drivers download.

Have a great day,

Thank you for the previous reply. Here are the results of my efforts to follow the suggestions provided...

I verified that I had administrator privileges on this computer and tried reinstalling NI-Motion 7.5 with the same error and result.

A scan disk of the local drive did not reveal any problems.

I followed the provided link to the DAQmx drivers and noted that the download was 829Mb and decided before attempting that large of a download here at work I would ask a slightly different question that is more directed at what I would like to accomplish...

“Is there a specific download that would allow me to update the firmware for a PXI-7344 Motion Controller via the Measurement & Automation Explorer?”

In the meantime, I’m re-downloading the 204Mb NI-Motion 7.5 file to see if something became corrupted in the download/unzip process. However, I’m guessing this is unlikely to be the problem.

To be honest, it seems slightly extreme to have to download 200-800mb files to update the firmware on a simple Motion Control card so I’m hoping there is better way.

Hi Flick,

If you select your PXI-7344 card in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) under NI Motion Devices, you should see a firmware tab at the bottom of the window.  If you select that tab, you should see the update firmware button.  If you don't want to download the whole DAQmx driver, you can download just the 8.0 runtime engine (if you do have LabVIEW 8.0 that is).  Before you install the Motion drivers, are you uninstalling the old drivers?  If not, try uninstalling all of the Motion drivers, and reinstalling.  If that still doesn't work, try repairing LabVIEW from Add and Remove Programs.
