E Series DAQ and Thermal couples

Can I use an E series DAQ to read thermolcouples? I was thinking an E-Series card and an SBC-68 would would in conjunction. Do I need any other hardware? i.e. signal conditioning? This is for a simple test setup to read 6 thermal couples. I did not know if an E-Series Analog In 16SE 500 KS/s would work. To read RTDs and thermolcouples don't you need to send a signal through the device? As always any help is appreciated, an example would be nice too 🙂 I have no experience on the E-Series card...... Thanks Tim C.

Yes, you can. The SCB-68 has an onboard cold-junction compensation sensor for low-cost thermocouple measurements. So, you won't need any other hardware for signal conditioning.

 

At the same time, I would recommend using the SCC or SCXI signal conditioning for highly accurate thermocouple measurements. Have a look at the following article:
