ERROR: Database variant to data; The Governing Library is broken

I just converted an application created in LV 8.2 to 8.5 and I get the following error now:

ERROR: Database variant to data; The Governing Library is broken

The application works and runs fine in 

How do I fix this problem?

This has come up before. Sometimes repairing the LabVIEW installation fixes it. Mostly, though, it requires completely uninstalling LabVIEW (and making sure to delete the "National Instruments" folder) and then reinstalling. See, for example, here.
