ESD CAN-PCI/331-2 card compatibility

I would like to know if this CAN bus card from Electronic System Design is compatible with Labview 2010. The release notes mention Labview 6 but in my initial tests the hardware does not appear in MAX. I sent a request for information to ESD but wanted to check with this forum if someone could help me.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Your CAN bus from ESD would be compatible with LabVIEW if there is driver out there for the CAN-PCI/331-2 card developed such that it can interface with LabVIEW. I checked our site, and there is not a driver that i could find for this particular piece of hardware.

You can check here: http://www.ni.com/downloads/idnet/ to double-check and see if we have a known driver for that piece of hardware that I couldn't find.

However, if the manufacturer has previously made it such that it can interface with LabVIEW I would ask their support team to see if they do have driver for compatibility with the newer LabVIEW 2010.

Hope This Helps,

Hi doug,

Thanks for your reply. ESD just sent me a zip file with VI examples and a user.lib folder containing .dll and .lvlib files. This library seems to allow me to access the PCI cards. My original need was to actually use the standard Labview CAN and CANopen libraries because I already have a working application for a national Instrument PCMCIA-CAN Series 2 card.

All I need is a confirmation that I can or cannot use the standard labview CAN libraries with this card so that I know if I need to redo my application using ESD's library. Thank you for your feedback.

Hey Jean-Yves,

The CAN and CANopen drivers from NI are built such that our CAN and CANopen hardware can interface with LabVIEW. I highly doubt that the third party hardware will be compatible with them. I would suggest that you use the ESD library as it is created specifically for their hardware to interface with LabVIEW.

Hope This Helps,
