Error 1714. An older version of IVI Class Drivers Cannot be removed.

I have been trying to install LV7.0 on a windows XP machine that has had Labview 6i installed. After problems on a different machine I uninstalled LV6 and after some issues I succeeded. LV7 does install but as soon as I try and install the IVI Compliance Package, it falls over giving the error listed in the subject field above.
When I look in Add/Remove programs a 'basic IVI class driver' item exists but when trying to manually uninstall it, it comes back with the message
"The feature you are trying to install is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'BICDsetup.msi' in the box below"
I have sp
oken to an NI support engineer on the telephone with no luck. I am hoping someone out there has had and overcome a similar problem....

Barry

Hello Barry,

You are most probably seeing the error 1714 due to the bug in the older MSI architecture. I would like to find out which exactly version of the Basic IVI Class Drivers (BICD) you have on your system. Please go to Add/Remove Programs and click on BICD to highlight it. Use the "Click here for support information" link right below the title in the highlighted area. Please send me the exact BICD version. I will then send you the BICDsetup.msi file. When you get the file, you will be able to point to it during the uninstallation, and hopefully successfully uninstall BICD.

Thanks,

Hello Vesna,

Thankyou for your help. However, it appears that the option to "click here for support information" is not available. I have tried looking through the registry to try and find the version with no success. I cannot think of another way to find out the revision, maybe you can? All I can add is that it was apparently the very first release of 6i that was installed (but not by myself).

Barry

Hi Barry,

It's strange that the "click here for support information" link is not available on the Windows XP machine. LabVIEW 6i was released in 2000 so I am sending you one of the earliest versions of BICD. BICD was not part of the LabVIEW installation at that time.
One quick question: Are you able to continue with the installation of IVI Compliance Package after you get the 1714 error message?

Thanks,
Vesna
