Error -8260 occurred at ISOTP Receive.vi

Hi,

I recently purchased a CAN USB-8473 and the Automotive Diagnostic Command Set. I am communicating with a thermocouple and I am trying to read the ECU identification from it using the ReadECUIdentification.vi example. The security level for reading the ECU ID is 0. I’m using an extended arbitration ID. I have filled in all the specified information in the front panel.

HW Select: NI-CAN

CAN Interface: CAN0

Baudrate:250000

Transport Protocol:ISO TP-Normal

Mode: 86 (also tried 81 and many others)

When I run the VI I get an error.

Error -8260 occurred at ISOTP Receive.vi

Possible reason(s):

NI Automotive Diagnostics Command Set:

Diagnostic command timeout. A response from the ECU was not received.

I am trying to use KWP 2000, but every tool from the KWP 2000 palette gives me this error. However, I do not get a KWP2K error code like I would expect. I have tried using other baud rates, modes, and a different ECU. I have also tried changing the global Fill CAN Frames to true.

What are the necessary steps to read the ECU ID and what might be causing this error? Also do you have any getting started tips for using KWP2K?

Thanks!

Hi Lindsey_VS,

I first wanted to ask if you could provide some documentation to your ECU. Are you sure that it uses ISOTP and not VW or diagnostics? Any information you can provide that I can take a look at would be greatly appreciated.
