Error and Warnings in LabVIEW. What are the conventions?

Hi!

What is a good reference to use as the convention to use for generating warnings and errors in my VIs?  I've always "piped" the error signal through my subVIs and the SubVIs that they consume, but have had little need to throw my own errors and warnings until now.

I want to go by some standard or reference, as oppose to pulling something out of my....
