Error when installing an instrument driver

I am getting the following message when trying to install an instrument driver from the tool menu of the Lab View Getting Started screen:

An error occurred and the download could not be completed. The error message below may help you solve the problem.

If the problem persists you can manually download and install instrument drivers at ni.com/idnet.

Error message: EP Install File Error

What does it mean? and how do I fix the problem?

Hi Jema,

Do you have any firewall or security software that would prevent the downloader from working. What instrument driver are you downloading? Can you download and install the driver from ni.com/idnet?

Hi,

I did not get it. How do you find the instrument i LV. I have downloaded a LLB file from ILX Lightwave and copied it to the C:\Program files\National instruments\Labview 2011\ instr.lib folder. But I don't understand how I can use it from LV. Can I find it in the pop-up menu in the Font panel or the Block diagram.

Thanks.

Leif

Hi Leif,

Once you download and unzip the drivers place the folder in this location:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 20xx\instr.lib

Then open LabVIEW and navigate to Help >> Find Instrument Drivers

A new screen will open and it will search and find any instrument drivers in the instr.lib folder.

Once your drivers are found you can use them two ways.

In the Find Instruments Drivers window you can click on the drivers and then choose an example or you can open the functions pallet in LabVIEW.  You can then navigate to Instrument I/O >> Instr Drivers and VIs for your drivers will be located there.

Here is a tutorial on IVI Drivers for you to look at as well.

Good Luck!

Hi,

Thank you for the advice.

Unfortunately another problem occur. The LabVIEW computer is placed on the lab and is not connected to the internet of security reasons. When I try to start the NI Instrument Driver Finder a error message is shown asking med to check my internet connection.

Maybe there is a setting somewhere telling LabVIEW that the computer is not connected to the internet.

Regards,

Leif

Hi Leif,

You will not be able to run the "Find Instrument Drivers" wizard without an internet connection.  When you do run it, before you click okay, you should see your drivers show up in the list of installed drivers.  This will me that LabVIEW did find the drivers.

You can still open the examples by navigating to:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 20XX\instr.lib\"Instrument Name"\Examples

And the instrument drivers will still appear in the functions pallet in LabVIEW.
