This (installing the latest version of LabVIEW results in a mysterious error that can't be "fixed" by a reboot + "try again") has happened to me a half-dozen times since NIPM was introduced in 2017.  Through Trial and Error (and advice from one of the NI Support Engineers), I try the following (which, as far as I can remember, has always worked for me):

  1. Open NIPM.  Make sure the box "Products Only" is not checked.
  2. Click the little box over the list of all the packages.  This should select everything.
  3. Click "Remove".  This should uninstall all NI Software (except for NIPM itself).  Reboot.
  4. Run NIPM again.  It should find only itself.  Select it, agree you really want to remove it, and remove it.
  5. Reboot and decide what versions you want to install.  Go to NI's Installation page and download the Installer for the newest version of LabVIEW you want to run, presumably LabVIEW 2025 Q3.  Be sure to specify 32/64 bit and Base/Full/Professional (depending on your license.
  6. Start the Installer.  It should first install the most recent version of NIPM, then start choosing the packages you plan to use (including the Drivers you need).  I recommend that you selectively choose the "Additional Packages" that you need, rather than load everything.  Reboot when installation finishes.
  7. If you want to also run an earlier LabVIEW version, install it by following Steps 5 and 6 for the "most-recent earlier version" you want.  Reboot.
  8. Repeat Step 7 until you have all the Versions you want to run.

One thing I haven't routinely done is to install both 32-bit and 64-bit for the same LabVIEW Version.  I expect it would work, but I would try 64-bit first, then 32-bit second.  I also suggest limiting yourself to two (or maybe 3) Versions.  Also, remember the "5-year Rule" -- if you plan to install LabVIEW 2025, you might have a problem if you install a version earlier than LabVIEW 2021.

Thank you very much Bob for the very detailed answer. I did not dare to delete all the folders of version 2024 Q3. But after restarting the computer, I downloaded again the online installer ni-labview-2025_25.5_suite_online.exe and ran it. This time I had a problem with ni-dcpower: unable to locate the package 'NI-DC Power(>=25.5.2.49158-0+f6)' with a compatible version and architecture. I had to cancel this installation, the rest was installed successfully. I then installed version 2025 Q2 instead of Q3 of ni-dcpower without problem. Thanks again for your suggestions.
