Errors 37 and 42

Hi,

When the FTIR (MultiGas 2030) was running, it suddenly stopped and a new window showed as follows:

Error 37 occurred at Collect is Spectrometer On-line.vi.

Traceback: Error 42 at Spectrometer is not scanning!

Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  Device not found.

Could it have a problem with interface and how to fix it? It seems to have lost a connection between the software and the hardware, right?

Although I restarted the computer and instrument, the problem was still there when I tried to click "run" button in the software series 2000 multigas analyzer (version 06.31.06)

I appreciate it if you can give me a quick answer at your early convenience. Thanks!

Jim

Hello KEYWORD, hope you are doing great!

Is this FTIR device communicating via serial? or a parallel port? Which version of LabVIEW are you using?

You might want to check this and this that might help you out get rid of error -37.

Error 42 is a generic error, In this case we would like a bit mre of information after trying with the links provided for error -37

Hopefully solves both errors.

Luis A.

Applications Engineer.

Hi,

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but would you please let me know how you dealt with this error because I am having the same problem. The only difference is my FTIR didn't stop during a run it just didn't start again after about a month of inactivity.  I got this same error message on a second computer so I assume it must be something wrong with the device itself. Also the computer that normally is connected to the FTIR does not have an internet connection so there couldn't have been a software update problem.

Thanks

LabViewer1,

You may have better luck if you create a new thread for this topic.  Just reference this thread when you create your new one.

Could you also answer the questions that Luis asked so we can get a better idea of what is happening?

Hello everyone,

I am a senior field service engineer for MKS instruments - the maker of the Multigas 2030 being discussed here. Forgive me for being so late to the party, but I've just stumbled onto this thread completly by accident as a result of an unrelated internet search. I just joined this forum for the express purpose of responding to this thread. First of all - I am NOT a Labview expert, in fact I know little about it. I am however, an expert on the Multigas.  🙂

The fault you are getting simply indicates that the Labview based software "MG2000" can not communicate with the Multigas. This may be for an assortment of reasons:

-Bad Calbles

-Failure to set your PC IP address correctly

-The Multigas itself may have stopped functioning.

If you have been happily using your Multigas for quite a while, and have suddenly started getting this error, by far the most common reason would be that the laser onboard the instrument has reached its end of life and stopped functioning. The laser has an average lifespan of about 2 years. When it dies, the instrument stops running and so will not communicate with your PC or software, and you receive this error.

I recommend that you either contact our Field Service group to arrange for the laser replacement at your facility, or contact our factory to arrange to have it sent to us for service. Should you want it serviced at your facility, please feel free to contact me at Matt_Bellemare@mksinst.com or visit our website to arrange for its return at mksinst.com.

I hope that this help!
