Express VI initialization and progress message

I am developing an Express VI.  If I drop this Express VI on a blank diagram immediately after starting LabVIEW (8.5), it will sometimes take as long as 20 seconds for the configuration front panel to appear.  Testing has shown that most of this delay occurs before the first executable block of the configuration VI is run.  I would like to display something (e.g., a message, progress bar, or hourglass) during this delay, but since the configuration VI is not running during most of the delay, it is not clear how to achieve this.  Any ideas?

Also, the following two factors might be relevant:
1. Both the configuration and source VIs reference a .NET assembly.
2. The source VI has about 100 controls/indicators on its front panel.

If the configuration VI has not run yet, there is little we can do in the Express VI Dev Kit to fix this.  You might consider making a product suggestion here to include this in the next version of the Express VI Dev Toolkit..
