FieldPoint seems to sleep

Hi,

we have a problem with our FieldPoint FP-1600. After starting it works
well. The LEDs for LINK, RX and TX show activity.
But when we don' t use it for a while, it seems to change to a sleep
mode. The LINK LED is on, but RX and TX are off. In LabVIEW this causes
errors, and the FieldPoint Explorer doesn' t work also.
The only way to awake it is a reset by switching off the power.

Does this sleep mode exist or is it an error?
Can we awake our device by software, or is it possible to prevent this
sleep mode?

Thanks, Michael

Michael,
The FP-1600 does not have a sleep mode similiar to what you describe. You
should be able to leave a FP-1600 unaccessed for days and then immediately
link to it with no dif
ficulty (I have done this extremly frequently). Since
you are awakening the module by resetting the power supply, one theory I
can offer is that you may have a power problem or ground loop. I have seen
cases where a power supply common would drift too much with respect to the
common of other devices on the network (such as the hub) and it would be
out of range for the isolation transformer to actually convert the signals.

Additionally, National Instruments has released firmware revision 2.0 for
the ethernet modules and it offers improved performance speeds and reliability.
You may want to download it from:
ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/fieldpoint/Update/FPEthernet0200.fpf
Instructions for upgrading the firmware can be found at:

Hy Michael,

Does it work with the firmware for the ethernet modules ? I had same problems with the FP-1600, too. The Status-LED is normally green and it seems to work, but the RX and TX LEDs are off. There is also no connection to the controller. It also didn't appear in MAX...

The Solution for my cause was to reset the FP-1600. You can read it in the manual of the FP-1600: http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/dd2cd78fcb6912bf862567bd005904ae (Page  A-1)

After resetting the FP-1600 works very well...

best regards,
