Fieldpoint and Labview 64 bit - why is the LabVIEW Support missing from MAX and the Measurement I/O Pallette?

I am running Labview 2010 on a Windows 7 virtual Machine, I have installed Fieldpoint 6.0.7 with all the appropriate support. The VIs are in vi.lib. BUT, MAX doesn't show the LabVIEW support as existing, and the Measurement I/O pallette doesn't have the Fieldpoint VIs linked into it.

Anyone out there with any idea what I might need to do to get these seen? I've uninstalled, re-installed, installed only sections, and so far - no sign of these VIs appearing.

So, any ideas?

Hi Kathryn,

Could you give a bit more detail on the specification of your system, you mention Windows 7 virtual machine, is the computer 64-bit?

At the moment it seems to be a compatibility issue. Also what version of Measurement & Automation Explorer are you using.

Hi John,

It is windows 64 bit, and 64 bit LabVIEW.

It's MAX 4.7.2 in use on the system.

Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for your quick reply. So am I correct in thinking that you cannot see the Fieldpoint in MAX? It would be helpful to take some screenshots of the missing support within MAX.

I will look further into this issue also, many thanks again.

Not quite. I can see Fieldpoint, but not the LabVIEW support section.

The first screenshot is from my 32-bit system, the second is the one from the 64-bit system.

Not seeing the support section could be down to it running on a virtual machine, could you try this on a different PC?

I am still looking into any previous issues regarding 64-bit fieldpoint and virtual machines.

I don't have any non-virtual 64 bit systems to try this with unfortunatly. Also, due to other constraints on the system we need to run other parts which are 64 bit. Both the fieldpoint and the other aspects are central to the working system.

Hi Kathryn,

I will now try to recreate this on a lab PC myself, I understand you have done a complete reinstall of your products once. Did you do the install in the method of first the software, then toolkits/modules, then the drivers? (With a restart of your system in each interval)?

Many thanks,

It was only a reinstall of Fieldpoint over the installation of LabVIEW. So LabVIEW was installed, onto which are installed the various modules. The initial installation had left out the LabVIEW support completely, and so I first tried installing that. I wasn't going to the extent of uninstalling LabVIEW/MAX as well as the Fieldpoint, that was a little more involved that I would have thought necessary.

Is there any chance that this is down to the fact that Fieldpoint is 32 bit and I'm using a 64-bit LabVIEW?

Hi Kathryn,

Yes, I spoke to one of my colleagues on this issue and it appears that Fieldpoint is not a 64-bit driver so will not show up in your palettes.

I'm sorry for how long it has taken to come to this conclusion but there is limited material covering this info.

The resolution for this is to simply use a 32-bit system, sorry I could not be of more help!
