FlexRIO update fpga simulation libraries error

I downgraded to ModelSim 6.5c to remain fully compatible with niFPGA.  I am now trying to generate simulation VHDL files and need to update my FPGA simulation libraries.  When I do so, I get the following error:

"An error occured while updating the FPGA simulation libraries.  Make sure ModelSim is installed correctly and the files in the ModelSim directory are not read-only."

Not the most helpful of messages.  ModelSim is installed correctly and runs.  All files in all subdirectories have read/write permissions.  What is labview looking for that it is not finding?  Maybe that will help narrow down the issues I am having.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings manjagu.

I apologize for the difficulties you are experiencing.  I am currently looking into this issue but in the meantime, could you also specify what version of ModelSim you downgraded from?  Also, what version of LabVIEW and LabVIEW FPGA are you using?

Regards,

Michael G

Hi Michael,

I opened a SR a few days ago on this, but it seems to have dissappeared.  I tried modelsim 10,6.6d, and now 6.5c.  LV didn't like ModelSim 10 at all.  LV gave a "it will probably work" message about 6.6d.  No errors about compatibility with 6.5c.

I am using

LV 2010 SP1 (32-bit)

LV FPGA 2010 SP1

Modelsim 6.5c (32-bit)

Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello again manjagu.

There was a Corrective Action Request (CAR) filed regarding this sort of behavior however, it indicates that there should not be an issue with 6.5c and LabVIEW 2010 SP1.  I am curious as to if the problem may be a result of an artifact left by the installation of version 10 or 6.6d.  Did you uninstall these versions completely prior to installing version 6.5c?  One thing that might possibly work to remedy this situation is to remove the ModelSim environment variable from your system as that seems to be related to the issue.  For information on modifying environment variables in case you are unfamiliar with this process, please reference the article below.

How to Add, Remove or Edit Environment variables in Windows 7?

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Michael G.

I removed the environment variable as you suggested.  I found stuff from the previous installations there too.  No such luck though even after a reboot.  Is LV looking for anything in the registry?  What library files is it specifically looking for so I can check my ModelSim installation?

Hi manjagu.

We are currently waiting to here back from R&D for further suggestions on this issue.  I'll update this thread as soon as I have any new information.  I apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause.

I am having the same issue.  I also had to downgrade to get Labview to accept the simulator.

Labview2010 SP1

WinXP

Previous versions:  QuestaSim 10.0b, ModelSim 10.0b

Current version: ModelSim 6.5g (latest 6.5 release from Mentor's supportnet).

1)  Uninstalled ModelSim PE 6.5g

2)  Removed the ModelSim installer

3)  Used CCleaner (from pirisoft) to clean my registry

4)  Manually deleted all Mentor/Modelsim directories

5)  Installed ModelSim PE 6.5c (the version directly called out on the NI support case) from SupportNet

6)  Selected directory in the simulator window.

7)  Updated simulation libraries completed successfully.

I am uncertain what step was the critical one, but hopefully this helps.
