I was able to reproduce it with some caveats - only some variable names would shift. For example, lowercase i and uppercase X would never shift for me, but some other variable names would. 

CAR 469268 has been filed regarding this issue.

OK, not sure again what you were or were not able to reproduce, but at least someone knows that the Formula Node outputs (what about inputs?) have a live of their own.

I'd suggest to take a look at the MathScript Node, in case they share some code.

I was able to reproduce the variable names shifting by 1px every time the VI is opened, saved, and closed. However, with some variable names I did not notice the behvaior. This was tested with inputs and outputs, and the bug was present with both. However, this only happened when inputs and outputs were located on the top and bottom borders.
