General LabVIEW PDA Question

Hi Everybody:

I just wanted to make sure before I buy the PDA modules for both Palm and PocketPC that the following can be performed in version 7.1

I need to link an RS-232 instrument DIRECTLY to the PDA (Palm or PocketPC) and communicate with it. This can be done, right?

If possible, which PDA(s) do you recommend?

Thanks
Robert

Hi Robert,

I do use the PDA modules for communicating over the serial port. I use an IPAQ with Pocket PC 2002. I am using version 7.0 and this works fine.

However I have not been able to get control over individual lines of the serial port. (ex. RTS, DTR).

If you need just TX, RX capabilities then the PDA module will do just fine.

Thanks for the answer. Can you tell me the exact model IPAQ and where you got the serial cable? I will need to convert the serial cable to an RJ11 connector.

Thanks

rberger,

I am using an IPAQ 5450, which has since been removed from production. This was replaced by 5550 or 5555 (exactly the same IPAQs but for different geographic regions).

IPAQs provide for both USB and Serial Interface. However USB was not supported in LabVIEW 7.0. If you plan to use USB please check up whether it is supported on LV7.1.

The serial cable is available on the HP website.

Hello!

The LabVIEW PDA Module supports serial communication. To learn more about implementing serial communication with a PDA please visit this link.

Hope this helps.
