I've been creating simple multichannel DAQ tasks using NI DAQmx Palette, then I discovered DAQ Assistant Express VI which builds the core of my VIs quite efficiently. I am also familiar with NI MAX DAQmx Tasks window which looks and works pretty much the same as DAQ assistant. It is perfect that after its setup, you can transform DAQ assistant VI to editable code, but as I developed my app, I realised that I am basically building this DAQ assistant Express VI from scratch (e.g. functionality to dynamically add channel on the run, saving tasks to file...). So it would be best to utilize and change the "source code" of DAQ assistant Express VI (not its VI output) and add my desired functionality to it rather then developing my own version that would do pretty much the same.
But I can't find the VI itself, I am not sure if Express VIs are even files that can be opened+copied+edited. Any ideas?

The workaround could be that I setup and save the task in NI MAX and my app would just take the task and perform the measurement with my added features. That could work but is clumsy.
