Getting Error 2 crash using example finder LV2013 SP1

Solved!
Go to solution

I haven't seen this since LV 8.0. I don't remember how I fixed it. Help>Find Examples gives me this. I didn't have this problem until I just upgraded to SP1. I think. Thanks in advance.

Do you open any examples, or does it just crash as soon as the Example Finder should open?

Usually I see this error when using System Exec.VI and forget to use "cmd /c" before a command line command.

EDIT:

I would also guess, judging by the indicated error, that LabVIEW uses its own System Exec VI function to run the example finder.  It seems to not be able to find something in the path.

Does any of the pathing in the error look off to you?  For instance, did you install the 32-bit version of LabVIEW 2013 on a 64-bit machine?  Because LabVIEW definietly thinks so -- so verify this.  Also check those paths to ensure the files it is looking for are in appropriate directories.  I would think this is likely an installation error of some sort causing one of the command line arguments to be invalid due to path issues.

This is 32-bit LV installed on a 64-bit machine. It crashes right after I select Help>Find Examples

Hi PaulG,

The fix for this issue back in LabVIEW 8.5.1 was to do a repair or reinstall of LabVIEW. Could you try to repair or reinstall and see if that fixes the issue?

If it makes any difference my 8.5 and 2014 beta is behaving the same way. I tried a repair and reinstall of 2013 and it still crashes.

Hello PaulG,

As mentioned by Robert, this problem should fix by repairing or reinstalling LabVIEW. Please take a look at KB Error 2 Occurs When I Try to Launch NI Example Finder.

Can you please confirm that indeed the NI Example Finder file is missing from your system? From your first post, it seems you are 2014 beta, did you try uninstalling? Did the error appear just after you installed this beta version?

Can we try repairing without the 2014 beta version in the computer?

NI Example Finder.exe is not where it's supposed to be. Repairing 8.5 and 2013 did not solve the problem. I'll uninstall 2014 beta but don't see how that would make it work.

I got tired of dicking with this problem so I just copied the BIN>1.0 folder from a working machine to the non-working machine.

I really, really hate doing that. If my Example finder .exe was missing what else could be missing?

Two repair attempts (8.5 and 2013), two uninstalls (2014 and 2013) and a reinstall did not fix this problem. A simple copy and paste of a folder did. Smiley Indifferent
