Getting Example Program "Switch - Scanning - Software Scanning" to Work

I am trying to develop a fundamental understanding of NI-Switch programming, so I am working through the example programs.

I have configured a virtual instrument in NI MAX as a PXI-2501. I have tried to use it while running "Switch - Scanning - Software Scanning (NI-SWITCH).vi in the example programs, using every available topology for the 2501, but I keep getting this error, "Device identifier in the list entry is invalid":

Any insight into what I am doing wrong? Also, does anyone know of a good tutorial for helping me get up to speed on NI-SWITCH? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
