May I know what is time stamping?

Back in the old days (10,000BC - 1970's) office clerks and secretaries would use literal "time stamps" when ever they filled out a form.  That way people going through the files later would know exactly when the data was entered.  

Now days Time Stamping can refer to any method of automatically appending the time and date to data as it is being processed.
