HP 6622a Power Supply Driver

Dear Sir:

I downloaded and installed the drivers for my power supply, HP6622A, at this link:

       http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=1096

I downloaded, both, the Labview driver and the LabWindows driver, and installed them.

Usually, when instrument specific drivers are installed, all you need to do is search for the driver in labview and then it is all plug and play.

This did not happen when I downloaded and installed the HP 6622A power supply drivers.

Can anyone with any experience with these drivers get me started on how I can use these drivers to control my HP6622A power supply?

Dear Sir:

I would like to thank you for your post.

      The post was helpful.

With regard to searching the IV folder in the C drive,  I found drivers which could be useful in a LabWindows environment but I found nothing relevant for the Labview environment.

I installed every supported Labview driver and LabWindows driver available from the webpage that I had linked to this post.

The problem is I need to know exactly which filename extensions for this particular test instrument I should be looking for.  I searched the C drive for *.mnu and *.llb files but nothing relevant turned up.     Can you tell me exactly what labview files I should be looking for, the files I need to cut and paste into the instr.lib folder?

I am trying to install working Labview drivers.   I looked in the instr.lib folder for the HP6622A folder but none appeared.  I realize after reading the webpage you pointed me to that I am supposed to cut and paste these files into the instr.lib folder.   I am just telling you this to let you know that I looked in that folder.

I looked at MAX and I know drivers had been installed.  I have enclosed a *.jpg screenshot of the software that had been installed which the program MAX detects.

I was hoping that maybe you can tell me a way I can find the Labview files which I need to cut and past into the instr.lib?   This would be very helpful.

Hi noobie_program…

If you use the this link and download the second driver, it will download an installer with the extension exe after you install the executable and open LabVIEW you should be able to see the driver in function palette of the block diagram. In the instrument I/O>> Instrument driver >>HP662x

Dear Esteban;

I am led to believe that I have installed both packages.    That is, unless one package will exclude the other package.

Nevertheless, I downloaded and re-saved the download again in a folder, and then ran the program.

When I ran the program the program does not let me re-install the package.   I believe the install program may see if I have installed the package already and then stops another installation.

Below is a *.jpg file that will show you what I see.    When you look at the "screenshot" you will see that my choice to continue with installation is greyed out.   This is as far as I get with the 2nd install.   By the way, the operating system is Vista.

Hopefully, someone at NI has experience with the "greyed" out button choice installation issue and can offer me suggestions about what I should do next.    I believe it would be helpful if you could identify using a Windows search engine what files should be present if a successful installation has been implemented.     I can see that you have successfully installed the drivers.

I would like to thank you for your reply/

I neglected to mention that I had also installed Agilent's HP6622A drivers.

I do not know the past history of how NI software and Agilent's software coexisted together.  However, it is possible that the mutual exclusion of software may have been built into the installation program.   This is a possibility I felt needed to be mentioned.

Thank you all for your input.

Hi noobie_program…

Are you able to see the instrument drivers on LabVIEW? Which version of LabVIEW do you have? Are you using a NI GPIB cable or card?

If it does not let you install the driver this mean the driver either is not compatible or is already installed. But now that you mention that you have windows Vista, you should check if the drivers that you have are all compatible with windows Vista. You can check the drivers and software versions on MAX. Launch MAX (Start»Programs»National Instruments»Measurement & Automation). And if you expand the software category you should be able to see the drivers and software that you have from National Instruments.

I might be able to help a little more if you can upload a Technical Support Report in your next post?

In this link explains how to create a Technical Support Report

Thank you for your reply.

To answer your questions:

"Are you able to see the instrument drivers on LabVIEW? "

The answer is no.  I do not see the instrument drivers in Labview.

"Which version of LabVIEW do you have?"

I am using Labview 8.5

"Are you using a NI GPIB cable or card?"

I am using a GPIB controller and and GPIB cable.

With regard to this comment:

" You can check the drivers and software versions on MAX. Launch MAX (Start»Programs»National Instruments»Measurement & Automation). And if you expand the software category you should be able to see the drivers and software that you have from National Instruments"

If you scroll up and see the *.jpg files that I have already attached, you will see that MAX does see some installed HP 6622A drivers.

I will try to copy and paste the "Technical Support" document.  I can't right now because I am not at that specific computer.

I will post the report, if possible, in a couple of hours from now.

I would like to thank you for your reply.

I managed to produce a simple report.   I do not believe it would be prudent to post this document on  a public website.  Can you tell me if there is a particular program or file that you would like to know is installed onto my system.

Dear Esteben;

I discovered what I believe to be the source of the problem.

I believe all the Labview drivers that I installed are incompatible with Labview 8.5.   I am almost certain of it.

I need the HP6622A Labview drivers that are compatible with Labview 8.5.

This is how I discovered the problem.

I began searching in my original installation folder and saw other folders for different versions of Labview which I recognized had to have been for my attempted installation of the HP 6622A drivers.   I had mentioned previously that I had installed every version of the labview driver possible.

I have enclosed a *.jpg file to show you what I saw.

Every single unique Labview driver version had its own instr.lib folder.

When I tried to open these files with my version of Labview, reply messages told me that my version of Labview was incompatible with their version.    What I found interesting was every Labview driver version appears to be present, except the 8.5 version (the version I require).

Can you tell me how I can obtain the 8.5 version of Labview driver I need and, also, can you tell me the safest way to uninstall all these other driver versions?
