HP 83652A connection problem

Hi,

         I'm using LabVIEW 2009 and have installed NI device drivers(NI-488.2).I've connected HP 83752A synthesized sweeper to the PC through GPIB cable.The GPIB address of this instrument is automatically showing up in the VISA open function.The problem is in the Agilent I/O connection expert,under Instrument I/O on this PC this instrument address is showing up with a Failed symbolbefore it saying there was  a communication failure.Even If I send *IDN? string I'm getting "There was a communication failurae as response".can any one help me out

Why are you using the Agilent utility? Since you have an NI controller, you should use MAX.

To do what? Just communicate to the instrument? If so, right click on the instrument listed there and select 'Communicate with Instrument'? You can also select Tools>NI-VISA>VISA Interactive Control.

p.s. Going to the Help menu is also a good idea.

Edit - you must also install NI-VISA.
