The answer is a little complex. Industrial cameras (line scan, frame scan) used for machine vision applications use a different format that commercial cameras, which use an MPEG stream. Industrial cameras are supported by NI's vision software NI-IMAQ, but only on some (not all) flavors of Windows. I saw demonstrated at NI Week 2000, a G3 powerbook capturing sequences directly into LabVIEW. The VIs were written by someone outside of National Instruments, so I don't know where you could get it. I would guess that anyone could do this by using the Quicktime SDK provided by Apple and some glue code, but it may not be so easy. I'll post an update if I find out any more information. Short story: I've seen it done.
