Have to communicate via ethernet with an instrument

Hello,

Excuse me, i am really such a newbie, but......
I need urgent help. I downloaded a driver for an Agilent 16522A Pattern Generator, which is located in a HP 16700A Logic Analysis System.
The driver uses GPIB to communicate with the pattern generator, but the whole system is connected by ethernet. I attached a picture of the initialize.vi to show you how it looks like. Especially look at the device name on the left of the initialize-symbol. I tried everything that any documentation told me to do, but it doesn't work. The error code is -1073807339 VISA: reading in HP16522A Initialize.vi->pattgeninit.vi.....

Thank you very much in advance!

Were you able to create a new TCP/IP resource in MAX? Are you able to ping the instrument?

Hello,

I am able to ping the logic analysis system, but i was'nt able to create a VISA ressource name in the VISA control panel (I don't know what you mean with MAX..) . Do you think this is the reason why it just doesn't work? I realized that if i enter as ressource name "TCPIP::137.167.188.64::6500::SOCKET", the error code is "reading failure", and if i choose "TCPIP::137.167.188.64::INSTR", the error code is "writing failure". What is more is that in the first choice it takes much longer to run the program. so i have the feeling that at least it does something.

MAX is Measurement and Automation Explorer. Open it up. Right click on Devices and Interfaces and select Create New>VISA TCTP/IP Resource. You should find out from Agilent whether the instrument is a VXI-11 LAN instrument.
