Hi everyone, Im not really familiar with custom controls. I have created a few simple ones, but i would like to start this feature more. Im particularly interested on how the attached custom control (from an OpenG toolkit) was created. I have tried a few things but im not sure on the process used to attach the indicator which changes colour. any tips will be greatly appreciated.
Most boolean controls have 2 sets of images, one for the control and for the shade. You should be able to replace the shade images with other ones. In this case, I believe they used the "Push Button", which has a third set of images (the inner LED). Unfortunately, it's not possible to create additional functionality in controls, only to modify existing ones.
If you talk about the inner LED - I once made a rectangular "Push Button". I didn't like to use the oval one for a front-panel I made.
It's just a simple Button and the LED is just an imported image.
So here it is for everyone who may like to use it.

Another point - when adding images, you should try to use internal LV images, so that they can be resized. If you have the image navigator, it seems to work if you copy the picture as WMF, then paste it in LV, and then copy it again from LV before replacing it. Have a look here. It also has a rectangle push button, but that one can be resized without pixelation, because it uses LV graphics and not an imported image.
The one I found there is very cheated - a rectangular boolean indicator on a button.
Thou shall not compare apples with pears ;).
But next time I'll try to remember your wise words :D.

How is that the original picture posted (attach1) has 6 parts and the one imported (attach 2) has only 3?. Is it a differenct type of control ?. Can we add parts to a control in LabVIEW ?.
Sorry - but I think I don't understand you correctly.
It's just a button with two graphics made with "ms-paint". One for the off-status and one for the on-status.

Ok let me elaborate: When you open OGC Launch (GO)__ogc.ctl in labview and go the Menu-->Windows-->Show parts, we see that control has 6 parts (or images as tst refered to),use the control parts window for this purpose. But if you do the same thing with the image that is attached with your post it shows only 3 parts RectButton.ctl. So i was just wondering if one can create additional parts for Labview controls.
I can't open the mentioned control (LV7.1), but as far as I know, it is not possible to create a new part. So this must definitely be another control.

Like I said earlier, you can't change the functionality of a control (e.g. add parts). The example I linked to (I was refering to my post, which was #20, and has no cheating), shows a customized "Push Button", which, like you said, has 6 elements and not just 3, which is apparently what they did as well.
