Highlight Execution (debug), Loops, Time Stamp Control, and LabVIEW 2010

I ran into an interesting situation while attempting to debug my software. I have written a simple test VI included as “example.vi” that uses a timed loop and “example 2.vi” which uses a while loop.

I am using LabVIEW 2010 Professional Development System.

I had both the front panel and the block diagram open for “example.vi”. See “screen 1.jpg”.

I execute”example.vi”. I pressed the calendar icon part of the time stamp control. The “Set Time and Date” window appeared. I could select a date without issue. I stopped execution. See “screen 2.jpg”.

I turned on “Highlight Execution” to follow the flow of the program. I executed”example.vi”. I pressed the calendar icon part of the time stamp control. The “Set Time and Date” window appeared. When I attempted to select a date, the “Set Time and Date” window went into the background and I could not do anything with any of the windows. I did discover that once I clicked on the windows blue background or opened another program, then I could go back to the VI and control the VI. See “screen 3.jpg”

I tried this with a while loop, see “example 2.vi” and the same behavior occurred. See “screen 4.jpg”

"example2.vi" does not exhibit the problem you described on the Mac.  LV 2010, OS X 10.5.8.  I cannot run the other VI because the timed loop is not available in the Mac version of LV.

I wish I had a MAC.

Unfortunately, I forgot to mention this, I am forced to use Windows XP Professional, on a dual x86 family processor computer.

I work on a government job and they are always afraid of change. I finally got them to order LabVIEW 2010. I will be updating the old Labview versions 4, 6, and 8 projects to LabVIEW 2010 +++. One of the managers is taking a bold step and going with Windows 7 on one of the upgrade projects. Perhaps the other managers will follow once I prove it all works.

Thank you for your response.
