Home Security System limitations on build?

Hello, all. I am a university student using LabView. I am a attempting to build a Home Security System for my project. I have been given little in criteria, only to design my own unique VI. I have an idea in mind and am having difficulty with the build. I would like my system to be wifi enabled with a user friendly mobile phone application. However I do not have anything available in targets and devices in my FPGA application. I also do not have access to cameras in my student edition. Additionally, since COVID restrictions we will not use the DAQ so I am a little confused on how to build a decent VI. Should I initialize my motion sensors using a wheatstone bridge to apply voltage rather than using a slide scale? Can I use a .png file of a still image in place of a camera? Any advice is much appreciated? I'm not asking for details. Just a friendly push in the right direction. Thanks,

JT

I'm wondering what your post tries to do. It mentions lots of things all over the place that make little sense as a whole. It almost sounds like you got an assignment, grabbed a number of terms you found on some technical sites and threw them together in your post. No structure, things that have barely any connection with each other and the main topic of a Home Security System.

The broadness of the terms you use, would indicate a project that won't be finishible in a single term even if you could work all year on it and would not have other subjects to study. On the other hand you mention constraints that basically seem to indicate that all you are going to be able to do is to write a paper that proposes a system without really building it. But to write such a paper you really would need a much deeper and more detailed understanding what it is that you want to create. Just knowing the title of the paper is definitely not enough.

Thank you for your reply Rolfk. I apologize. This is my first LabView course. I see that my question is vague. Since the pandemic we are unable to use the DAQ in our projects due to class size and Lab station availability. We are building our VI using RNG's and indicators, which is somewhat disappointing. I was able to build it based on the criteria given. After much reading, I absolutely agree with your assessment.

May I ask you one question? I created a login window with username and password. I added tab control to my front panel. My password is set to my time stamp. When I press run, everything around the tab control is removed. I then enter my username and password in tab 2, which then opens tab 3 and begins running the VI. once I've logged in I can't seem to turn my VI off. I am still troubleshooting my proximity sensors. Is there a way to logout of the VI other than changing the name of a stop control to Logout? I have errors in my VI and it seems when I fix one another presents itself. Ex: I recently fixed an array of rotating led's used when 911 is being notified, and when I login, it will not let me go past tab 2, and my VI is running without a way for me to stop it. If this is still vague, no need to respond. I thank you for your initial reply. I am just scratching the surface of what LabView is capable of providing me. I get that. Unfortunately, I have limited help from TA's and Professors. I'm relying on youtube and forums and there is little I found on VI's not using DAQ assistant or RIO, Python, SQL, FPGA, etc.

I've been hesitant to post questions after seeing some replies to others who have posted. Maybe there should be a LabView forum for dummies! I may be in the wrong forum.

Many thanks,

JT

It is very difficult to provide suggestions and support from "strangers who fail to share the problem with us".  By this, I mean you are clearly having problems with your LabVIEW code, yet have not posted any VIs that you have written (or are trying to use, without success) for us to understand (a) what you are trying to do (sometimes a rambling narrative helps), and (b) how you are attempting to do it (which is usually 80% of the problem).

Your second Post reads like an attempt to write a "spoof" of a Forum question about LabVIEW, using terms such as "DAQ", "RNG", "My password is set to my time stamp", and other phrases that make little logical sense, and are totally without any code reference.  You should definitely attach your VI (no pictures, please -- we need to see the actual code you mentioned in your reply) so we can understand how to begin to help you.
