The idea is that when having values of different lenght you store the part of the string that doesn't have a complete value. A complete value ends with a comma. The stored part needs to concatenated before the next bytes read and then parsed again.
I would also increase the number of bytes read to at least about 5 to 6 variables, as you won't be able to see the difference in sceenupdate, but probably will see a difference in peformance.
