Right click on Devices in MAX and select "Add New Device". Then follow the wizard. It will ask you what kind of hardware the device is, what DAQ board its's connected to, and a bunch of stuff. In the end, the SCXI will be another device you can assign virtual channels to.

This method doesn't work. There is no selection under 'add new device' that includes the scxi-1200. Any other ideas?

NI DAQ 7.0 no longer support SCXI 1200. you can find the description of this problem in: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\readme.html.
You need to uninstall NIDAQ 7.0 and install NIDAQ 6.9.

The SCXI-1200 is an oddball even with the right NI-DAQ installation. It
needs to be manually installed into Windows using the Add Hardware applet
from the Control Panel, before you can get anywhere. This is how it goes
under XP, perhaps other Windows systems will be similar:

You tell it you have already connected the hardware, then select "Add a new
hardware device" from the list which appears, then "Install the hardware
that I manually select from a list (Advanced)", then select "Data
Acquisition Devices", then select the SCXI-1200 from the list. Tell XP to
install it. The driver isn't digitally signed, but I haven't experienced
any problems. I drive a 1984 car, and I think its the newest car I've
owned.

Now that the Windows De
vice Manager knows about the SCXI-1200, MAX can pick
it up. Maybe you have to reboot, I can't remember. Definitely refresh MAX.

I'm still tearing my hair out over an SCXI -1200 trying to get it to work
with my SCXI 1000 chassis, but at least XP and MAX know about it. The
longest journey begins with a single step.
