How do I communicate with a serial device using .net?

I've looked at the examples for communicating with serial devices, and I have managed to set up some Property Nodes from my external DLL, but I don't know what to send to the device to get it to respond.

Hello,
Your device should come with a manual with a list
of commands that you can send to it also what kinda of serial device is it?
Usually we should be able to communicate with your device using visa commands.
