How do I connect a thermocouple to SCB68/PXI6221 and configure MAX

I have a PXI controller 1031, and in it I have a PXI6221 M Series Multifunction DAQ.  I also have a SCB-68 accessory.  I have set Switches 4 and 5 for differential.  I'm using a normal, off the shelf type J thermocouple.  I try setting up to measure the thermocouple in NiMAX and keep getting a 2003052 error.

On the SCB-68, I have the positive lead of the thermocouple attatched to ai0.  the negative to ai8.  and a 100k resistor between ai8 and aground.

I'm probably doing something wrong in MAX.  Help?

Can you provide a screenshot of your error? Also, when connecting differential. according to the Field Wiring and Noise Considerations for Analog Signals you should include a bias resistor to the positive terminal.
