How do I extract a particular frame from an avi?

I need to be able to extract/replace a particular frame from an avi. I need to be able to do this so that I can view or modify then replace an individual frame. Also, I need this so I can program a slide bar to move forward and back in my avi.

A while ago, I had a sample program that did just that: had a slide bar to move forward and back in an avi. I can't remember if I got it on this exchange or not. If anyone knows of such a thing, I would appreciate not having to reprogram it myself.

Thanks.

Hi,
if you use IMAQ you can find a useful example how to read AVI files here:
http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niepd_web_display.display_epd4?p_guid=B45EACE3F10B56A4E034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52506&p_submitted=&p_rank=&p_answer=&p_source=External

Good luck,
Alberto

There is a toolset for manipulating AVI files at the link below. This toolset contains VI's that will decompress and extract a single frame from an AVI file.

Another option is to use ActiveX to interface with a media player and is described in the link below.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the links, but I'm looking for a solution that I won't have to purchase. I'm a student with no funds for such things.
