How do I make displacement measurements using a linear encoder and NI-9401?

How do I make displacement measurements using a linear encoder and NI-9401?  I couldn't find any examples for a linear encoder.

Hi VI Joe,

I would recommend opening a LabVIEW shipping example that is extremely close to your desired application and then changing it.

For example, you can use the shipping example titled "Measure Angular Position.vi".

(Example Finder » Hardware Input and Output » DAQmx » Counter Measurements » Position » Measure Angular Position.vi) 

You can then change the measurement from Angular Encoder to Linear Encoder.  (See the attached image.)
