How do I set where the cursor will default when starting a VI?

I am doing some improvements to some already designed VI's. One of the issues is that when the VI starts, the cursor does not default into the input location (i.e. Serial Number Field). The user needs to actually move the mouse to the field to get the cursor to appear, then scan the serial number. I would like the cursor to automatically appear in the string box (Serial Number field) when the VI starts. I have tried to figure this out, but I can't find info on it anywhere.
