How do use input voltages, to start a timer and then provide an output voltage?

Hello,

We are trying to use inputs from a simple light breaker circuit to trigger labview to a)run and b)to start a timer system. At the end of the timer we wish to provide an output from our DAQ card. The DAQ card being used is a PCI- 6221.
Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated.
