How does one interface to MAX? Once MAX recogizes new hardware, how does one associate a control window to use to talk to the hardware?

We are developing a new instrument. Ideally, it should integrate with MAX for proper address resolution, etc. so that we can then use the resources within LabView, etc. Is there a white paper describing what is required from the new instrument? The bus would 1394.

As far as I am aware, you will have to discuss this issue with National Instruments. I don't believe that MAX is capable of recognizing non-National Instruments hardware.

Start by going to http://ni.com/ask and starting a support question. More than likely they will direct you to hardware engineering.

Having reread your question a few times, I am starting to sense that there is something else that needs to be addressed. You mentioned that the instrument is FireWire. I am not sure how NI currently addresses FireWire, be it serial or GPIB, or some other format. If this is the case, it would be a VISA instrument. If this is the case, then if MAX is FireWire compatible, then you are probably going to be successful. If MAX is not currently FireWi
re compatible, you may be on your own to create an instrument driver.

Contact NI about this issue. They can probably be of the greatest assistance.

Also, please let me know if I am off the mark on this one. I am assuming that by 1394 that you mean IEEE1394, FireWire. As I don't have any FireWire instrumentation, I can't really advise you on that.
