How to configure a Non-NI device using MAX?

How do you configure a Non-NI device using Measurement and Automation explorer?   If you can give me a step by step I would appreciate it!

Thanks,

The step-by step procedure is easy. You can't configure a non-NI device from MAX so there are no steps. MAX is a utility program from National Instruments and cannot or should not be expected to work with boards from other manufacturers.

Bilyk,

Dennis Knutson is almost 100% correct.

There are some devices made by 3rd party vendors that can be detected by MAX and even be communicated with from MAX.  In nearly everycase, these are GPIB cards.  Also, it is possible for a company to reverse engineer our products so that they can create a card of thier own which will trick MAX into thinking it is one of our cards (to my knowledge, nobody has been able to do this yet and I wonder about the legality of such an act).

If you have a 3rd party GPIB board and are trying to get it to work in MAX, please reply to this email with the manufacturer of the board and its part number.

Other than that, I am not able to support issues you have with 3rd party devices communicating with MAX.

I think there are actually some more devices which could be considered to be controllable through MAX but not made by NI. That would include things like PXI boards and USB devices. Although the configuration from within MAX would only be basic as it obviously can't know how to handle the specific functionality of such devices, it will allow to invoke the Instrument IO Wizard to create a template configuration to use low level VISA functions to communicate to such devices.

Rolf and Lorne are of course, correct. The PXI and USB devices should have occurred to me since I'm in the middle of debugging a test sytem with both types designed internally.
