How to control USB port power?

Hello guys,

I was wondering if it's possible to control the power of a "specified" USB port through Labview? An example would be I have a device plugged into the USB port of my workstation, but I want to be able to completely power off the USB port and then power it back on later. Is it possible to do this? If it isn't, are there other cheap workaround solutions to do this (i.e. controlling a USB hub)? My sensor device I'm using is very sensitive and I want to use it in an automated environment but I need to power it off (otherwise it'll burn out due to the heat involved in this system).

Thanks for your attention and help!

JY

(Assuming Windows) You could try to use devcon and send the command to disable the device. That might turn it off. You can call devcon via System Exec. If you search you will find examples of its use.

You can try using My Endpoint Protector. Is a SaaS solution for USB Port Lockdown from Endpoint Protector that I'm using as it is free for up three computers. You can easyly find it and install it by googling it.
