How to locate the Functions seen on the Block Diagram ?

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi everyone,

Please help me with my problem. I read the example files of Labview. I saw some icons (for example, besides Formula, Simulated Signal...etc) on the Block Diagram that I don't know where those icons come from (I don't know the name so I can't use Search). How could I know the locations of those unknown icons ? (location means: Simulate Signal is in Functions/Express/Signal Analysis)

Your help is very appreciated

There's no reason that you would know the name. You, especially as a beginner, should always have Context Help turned on. This will display the name of the function. In addition, if you click the 'Detailed Help' link in the window, you get a button that says 'find on the Functions Palette'. On any function, you can also right click and select Visible Items>Label (or Caption).

I would also like o add that if you right click the function on the block diagram it will provide at lease one way you can get to the palete the function is in. For example if you right click on the Simulte Signal function, you will see Waveform Generation Palete which is one of the paletes that the Simulate Signal Express VI is in.

Thank for your answer, but the right click on the function VI lead us to the Pallete storing the VI but the icon in the Pallete totally different from the icon viewed in the Block diagram, we will have trouble to remember when the Pallete becomes crowded. Some functions like Cluster Constant doesn't have the detail help to locate the function, and also the label just shows the name we added to the function but not its name. The context help did show the name of the function but for some like Cluster Constant, it just shows the data types...

A constant is not a function and you should really be able to recognize a constant without any help. Yes, you can modify the appearance of some icons on the block diagram and they may be be the same as the palette view.

Thank for your answer.

I have just tried to do right click on the icon of Cluster Constant on the Block Diagram and select Property. Then the topleft corner of the Property shows the name : Cluster Constant property. So now I could look at a Block Diagram with many stuffs and know where do they come from.

Thank for your help much.
